We all remember the old fashioned mop and bucket of yesteryear. Do you recall how dirty the water looked by the time you had finished a room? Was it really getting your floor clean? I think we all know the answer is no. Using dirty water to clean a floor is not going to make it clean.
If you have young children or pets you will appreciate the importance of having a clean floor. Well the good news is there is a great alternative to the traditional mop and bucket. Steam mops.
A steam mop is essentially an appliance that takes tap water and converts it into steam which then cleans the floor. The water is contained in the mop itself (normally in a water tank) so there is no need to lug around a separate heavy bucket of dirty water.
The steam is heated to a very high temperature - often in excess of 200 degrees F - which will kill 99.9% of germs. If you have you children crawling on your floor you will understand the importance of eliminating germs.
Another key benefit is steam mops just use plain old tap water. There are no harsh chemicals that need to be added. Another great benefit if you have pets or children, not to mention the cost savings from not having to buy cleaning products. This also means steam mops are good for the environment as well as your wallet!
When purchasing a steam mop you probably want to keep a few things in mind. Firstly the weight of the unit. Some are incredibly light and are a breeze to whiz around your floors but they are probably a little more flimsy - so there is a weight to quality trade-off you might have to make.
Secondly you may want to consider the length of the cord. I know it sounds simple but the last thing you want to do is have to keep unplugging it and plugging it in again to get a single room finished - look for at least 25 feet of power cord.
The amount of time the unit runs in between filling the water tank is another key feature to check out. Again you don't want to have to keep stopping and refilling. Any unit that gives you less than 15 minutes of run time per refill is probably not going to fit the bill.
Finally you want to go with a trusted brand. Names like Shark, Haan, Bissell and Eureka are some trusted names you should look out for,
